MG Motor Malaysia is having a mid-year promotion featuring the MG5 and MG4 models. The MG5 is a C-segment sedan with a B-segment price (MG Malaysia calls it a B) while the MG4 is a sharp-suited EV in a sea of bulbous, cutesy battery-powered cars.
The MG5 is being offered with a RM7,000 discount, which puts the RRP at RM86,900, the same price that early birds signed on. Meanwhile, the MG4’s ‘Drive Now, Pay Later’ deal is offering up to 12 months of free instalments. That’s for the Lux variant; the Standard variant gets up to eight months free. Terms and conditions apply.
To recap, the MG5 is 4,675 mm long and 1,842 mm wide, which puts it around the size of the Honda Civic. The MG’s 2,680 mm wheelbase is well within the C-segment ballpark (Toyota Corolla 2,700 mm, Civic 2,735 mm). However, the MG5’s powertrain is in line with B-segment norms – a 1.5-litre NA-four with 114 PS/150 Nm paired to a CVT. More in our launch report.
Launched in March 2024, the MG4 Standard has 170 PS, 250 Nm, a 0-100 km/h time of 7.5 seconds, and a 51 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery for 350 km of WLTP range. The Lux has 203 PS, 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and a 64 kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery for 435 km WLTP range. The RRP is RM104,629 and RM129,629, respectively.
The other MG4 variants – Lux Extended Range (520 km) and Xpower (0-100 in 3.8s) – aren’t mentioned in the promo. More on this interesting EV in our review.
Launched last month, MG’s latest model for our market is the S5 EV, a Proton eMas 7 and BYD Atto 3 SUV rival priced from RM111k – launch report here.
