A man was detained and 12,100 litres of diesel seized in Sungai Petani, Kedah, by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). Two raids in separate locations were conducted by ministry officers in conjunction with officers from Kedah police Special Branch, following public tip-offs and the ministry’s intelligence operations.
In the first raid, a lorry was found refuelling at a petrol station. Inspection of the lorry revealed diesel contained in two Intermediate Bulk Container (IBC) tanks, as reported by Bernama.
At a second location in Kampung Permatang Gedong, investigation showed an alleged collection and storage point for the diesel, said KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin. Authorities confiscated the diesel, worth RM34,364, as well as the lorry transporting the diesel, two IBC tanks and other related equipment, with an estimated total value of RM111,500.
Muhammad Nizam said the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and warned stern action will be taken against those who misuse the purchase and sale of controlled items. The public are urged to come forward to KPDN if they have any information on abuse of controlled or subsidised goods.
